Guide to Weekday Planning

I hope by now you have started to get a good taste of how I live a life of balance. I will spend a little extra time in the kitchen during the week so that I can truly enjoy brunch with my friends on Saturday morning. The key to holding yourself accountable during the week is to PLAN your meals and workouts ahead of time. This does not mean you have to make 14 meals on Sunday and eat the same shit every.single.day. Y’all know that is not how I am about to live my life. As a matter of fact, I rarely meal prep. When I was meal prepping for the week, I found myself bored of eating the same things with little to look forward to. So what’s the solution? Utilizing a few minutes on Sunday to set your intentions for the week.

Each Sunday I put together a note in my phone with all the meals I want to make for the week. This includes writing out what is for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For each meal I write what I am going to make and the ingredients needed, as you can see in the screen shot picture. Make sure to include any meals that you know you are eating out or work lunches in order to not waste any groceries. From this list I then create my grocery list for the week. Going into the grocery store with a list/plan allows you to get in and out quickly without buying random shit you’ll end up throwing away.

BENEFITS OF A GROCERY/MEAL PLAN

· Saves you TIME in the grocery store! You aren’t aimlessly wondering the aisles for what to eat

· Saves you MONEY! By buying only the groceries you will be using that week, you won’t end up throwing away a fridge full of expensive groceries at the end of the week.

· Holds you ACCOUNTABLE! By writing down and planning what you will be eating for each meal you are more likely to stick to it. You will be less likely to order in dinner if you already have the groceries and know what meal you planned for that night.

Planning your workouts for the week is equally as important as planning your meals! The key here? Put your workouts on your CALENDAR! If you have a work meeting or school class scheduled on your calendar you’re going to go to it, right? Well, use this same methodology to get your ass in the gym. If you’re like me and utilize StudioHop/Classpass, then pick out your classes for the week on Sunday. They make it super easy by giving you the option to add the class to your calendar, so (just) DO IT. Not only does this insure your spot in the best classes, but it also holds you accountable for showing up to them. If you’re not a fitness class person, still plan out when you are going to the gym and block out those times on your schedule that week. Now let’s take this a step further. If you are going to the gym, show up with a PLAN! Write out what your work out is going to be for that day. Otherwise, you will walk in, do a couple reps aimlessly and head out when you’re tired. I promise that if you walk in with a set workout to complete, you will sweat harder and feel more accomplished.

BENEFITS OF WORKOUT PLANNING

· If it's in your calendar, you’re more likely to DO THE WORKOUT.

· If you sign up for the class in advance, you’re going to SHOW UP. (No one wants to pay that $15 no show fee)

· If you plan what you are going to do at the gym you will workout HARDER.

This may seem like an overwhelming chore, but trust me it is easier than it sounds. You can get this planning done while you’re lying in bed hungover on Sunday morning or waiting for the next episode to load on Netflix. Whatever it takes, find 10 minutes of your Sunday to invest in yourself. I promise you will feel better when Friday comes around and you have eaten healthy, planned meals and completed all your anticipated workouts. This shit really works, so go do it.
